Financial Mathematics is a supplemental curriculum with a primary focus on highlighting the application of mathematics in everyday life. Joseph Tracy, a mathematics teacher at The Beddow High School in Accokeek, MD, designed the book to demonstrate, in creative ways, how mathematics applies in today's society. After passing Exam FM (Financial Mathematics) from the Society of Actuaries, he decided to assess his students on concepts from the exam. They thoroughly enjoyed solving real-world financial problems, leading to a significant increase in student attentiveness and performance on an everyday basis. Their profound interest in the material helped them achieve outstanding scores on the final exam. This provided them with a sense of personal accomplishment and a deeper appreciation for mathematics.

Mr. Tracy found it very rewarding to make mathematics more enjoyable for his students. He was even more excited that they completed his class with knowledge of how mathematics applies to real-world situations and the ability to make educated financial decisions in their adult lives. These outstanding results motivated Mr. Tracy to write Financial Mathematics so that more students would have the benefit of learning these concepts. Mr. Tracy is currently marketing Financial Mathematics to schools nationwide with the hopes of contributing to a much-needed increase in financial awareness among our youth.
